AIS 140 (Automotive Industry Standard 140) is a set of standards introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in India. These standards are related to the implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in public transportation vehicles to enhance their safety and efficiency.
AIS 140 mandates the installation of certain features in commercial vehicles, including:
Vehicle Location Tracking (GPS): Real-time tracking of the vehicle's location.

Emergency Button: A panic button for passengers to use in case of emergencies.

Camera Surveillance System: CCTV cameras inside and outside the vehicle for enhanced security.

Automatic Vehicle Location System: Enables tracking and monitoring of the vehicle.

Emergency Request Button (ERB): Allows passengers to request emergency services.
These requirements are aimed at improving the safety and security of passengers using public transportation services. The implementation of AIS 140 is often a requirement for certain categories of vehicles, such as taxis, buses, and other public transport vehicles.

Please note that regulations may change, and it's important to check the latest updates from official sources, such as the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or relevant government authorities. Contacting local transportation authorities or industry experts can also provide the most current information on AIS 140 compliance and certification mandates in India.
